Fall 2020 Recipient
It is with deepest gratitude that I extend a ‘thank you’ to you and the SOMA Foundation in receipt of the Medically Underserved Scholarship. It is through my upbringing as a first generation Polish-American, a year of AmeriCorps service, health disparities research and community outreach initiatives that I have developed a sincere passion for serving underserved and marginalized communities. It is with certainty that I plan on continuing the mission of this scholarship during a year of primary care immersion in rural Maine, through the elective Longitudinal Immersion Clerkship (LIC) program. Participating in the LIC allows for integration into one primary care office, and the opportunity to identify barriers to care, to conduct research that addresses and bridges gaps in the local care delivered, and to become an advocate to patients that I develop longitudinal relationships with. Receiving this scholarship is an honor, and a cherished reminder to continue this advocacy work as a future osteopathic physician, which I intend to do. Thank you!
