Mission & Vision

The Student Osteopathic Medical Association is the largest national organization dedicated to transforming motivated osteopathic medical students into dynamic health-care leaders who advance patient-centered health care within the United States and abroad.

SOMA is a nationally recognized pioneer in leadership development for future osteopathic physicians working to enhance the quality of patient-centered medical care through a keen promotion of osteopathic philosophy, research initiatives, preventive medicine focused community outreach, directed philanthropic efforts, and avid support for unity within the healthcare continuum.

The SOMA Foundation works in conjunction with SOMA, collaborating in support of a common vision through sponsorship of philanthropy projects, community outreach, medical education, and student scholarships. Every year, through your generous donations, SOMA is able to organize community outreach and public health education projects during the fall and spring conventions as well as provide scholarships for osteopathic students.

At the core of our philanthropic efforts is our SOMA Unity service project. Annually since 2005, SOMA has hosted a large-scale volunteer project every year in which students from osteopathic medical schools across the nation assemble to participate. These projects have varied over the years from working with local relief teams in New Orleans to help rebuild in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, putting smiles on the faces of children fighting life-threatening illness with the Make A Wish Foundation in Kissimmee, FL, to providing holiday cheer at both the Phoenix, AZ and Camden, NJ Ronald McDonald House of Charities, which serve as a “home away from home” for the family members of children who are being treated at nearby hospitals.

Our most recent endeavor, which is currently just getting underway, has been becoming a founding member of the DOCARE’s first Continuity of Care Clinic in San Andres Itzapa, Guatemala. This new resource for adventurous students will serve as a continuous opportunity to gain invaluable clinical experience while providing medical care to a neglected part of the world.

These many projects and awards would not be possible without the generosity of the Foundation's donors. I appreciate that you took the time to visit our website and encourage you to have a look around at the scholarships page or click on the button to your right if you are interested in donating online. If you have any questions pertaining to the SOMA Foundation or would be interested in supporting a scholarship or sponsoring a new scholarship, please feel free to contact me.

Thank you for your kindness and ongoing generous support.

Sincerely,
Adam Lundberg, OMS-IV
