2022 Recipient

Justin Abadejos, OMS-IV
Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine
"Thank you so much to Dr. and Mrs. Loniewski and the SOMA Foundation for selecting me as the recipient of the Ed and Melissa Loniewski Medically Underserved Scholarship. I began my work in underrepresented communities in my hometown of San Diego, California working with various non-profit organizations tackling various social justice issues including gender equality and gender-based violence, border health disparities, and reproductive health/justice. I moved across the country to Detroit, Michigan where I discovered my passion for street and community medicine working with our student street medicine program at MSUCOM, Detroit Street Care, where we strive to provide full-spectrum care alongside people experiencing homelessness.
I hope to embody the essence of this scholarship throughout the rest of my time in medical school as a student street medicine provider and as a future family physician. I am sincerely honored to receive this award and aim to continue tackling social injustices, advocating for my patients, and providing medical care to underserved populations in every community I work in."
