George Northup, D.O. Educator of the Year Award

The SOMA Foundation is excited to announce that we are now accepting nominations for the 2021 Northup Educator of the Year Award!
The George W. Northup Educator of the Year Award was developed in honor of George Northup, D.O., who acted as a mentor to many osteopathic medical students throughout his career, often going above and beyond the call of duty to improve students' educational experiences.
Each year, local SOMA chapters nominate a professor, dean, or faculty member from their osteopathic medical school who exemplifies the qualities of Dr. Northup. Nominees in the past have countless additional hours to students during exam preparation, have opened their homes to students, volunteered in the community, and acted as a friend when needed.
To nominate an outstanding educator who has made a difference on your campus, please submit one short essay (500 words or less) about your nominee along with his or her Curriculum Vitae to the SOMA Foundation Chairperson at Chairperson@studentdo.com by February 6th @ 11:59 PM EST. Only one essay per candidate will be accepted.
Due to a significant number of highly qualified nominees, all submissions will be reviewed and 5 finalists will be selected. You will be notified of our decision by February 20th. The SOMA chapters who nominated one of these 5 finalists will then be asked to submit an additional three-minute video to present to the 2021 National SOMA House of Delegates (HOD) in March at the Spring Convention. The 2021-2022 delegates will then select the 2021 George W. Northup Educator of the Year Award by a ballot process. The winning nominee will be recognized at the 2021 SOMA Foundation Fall Reception during OMED Convention.
