SOMA Foundation Fall Travel Grant

SOMA Foundation provides a $500 award to two osteopathic medical students who are attending the SOMA Fall Convention. The purpose of this grant is to alleviate financial stressors or restrictions which could limit students from attending the SOMA Spring Convention. Two Osteopathic Medical students will receive a scholarship for $500 and the award will be distributed at the annual fall SOMA convention in Baltimore, MD. The winners of the travel grant are required to participate in the SOMA Foundation Fall service project held during the SOMA Fall conference.

Due to travel restrictions from COVID-19, we are currently not accepting applications.

I am so honored to be one of the recipients of the SOMA Foundation Fall Travel Grant Scholarship. Your $500 award will help alleviate financial stressors for this trip, and I am very excited to be attending. I am among the first generation in my family to attend college and medical school, so I am especially thankful for the opportunity to be studying osteopathic medicine. I truly believed that with the high costs of medical school, I would not be able to participate in events such as
OMED, and I am very excited to not only get to attend OMED but also to represent OSU-COM. This will significantly contribute to my development as an osteopathic physician in training. In preparing for the conference this weekend, I would like to let you know some of the events I am excited to be participating in: I am running for Region IV Trustee in National SOMA and look forward to an opportunity to offer ideas to contribute to local SOMA chapters as well as the National SOMA, and I will be speaking on behalf of myself and OSUCOM’s Resolutions Committee at the House of Delegates. I also look forward to the planned SOMA events that will allow me to learn from other colleges of osteopathic medicine and network with and learn from those I meet.
Again, this trip could not have been made possible without your  contribution, and I appreciate your vote of confidence in helping me attend OMED.

Thank you so very much for your generosity and support in my attendance in this years OMED conference.  I believe that attending medical conferences is vital to our profession’s continuing education, enabling us to remain on the forefront of advances in medicine and it’s practice, thus ensuring we continue providing the highest quality of
care to our patients.  Unfortunately, the cost of attendance can often be prohibitive, especially for medical students such as myself, with a family to support.  Please know that your contribution not only benefits my education, but will benefit many as I return to my medical school with the lessons learned, professional contacts, and best practices gained at OMED, to share with my student body and faculty alike.  Though my fortunate ability to attend this conference, and god-willing many more down the road, I hope to become a better practitioner of osteopathy, bringing a higher level of care to my future patient population.  Additionally, you have set an example for me, encouraging me to pay it forward down the road by contributing towards the educational opportunities for future medical students through foundations such as SOMA.  Again, thank you for your sponsorship and support in cultivating this future osteopathic physician.
