Humanism in Medicine Scholarship

Sponsored by Thieme Medical Publishers

Sponsored by Thieme Medical Publishers, the Humanism in Medicine Scholarship was created in remembrance of eight Osteopathic physicians who tragically lost their lives in the pursuit of improving patient care. This scholarship is a chance to highlight a student that exemplifies what it means to be an osteopathic physician. We look to award students who show compassion, leadership and enthusiasm for medicine, much like our fellow Osteopathic physicians who came before us, with this $1,000.00 award.

I want to thank you for your donation and contribution to my education. It is an honor  to be selected as the recipient of the 2020 – 2021 Humanism in Medicine Scholarship. I am  humbled knowing that this scholarship was created in remembrance of 8 physicians who lost  their lives in the pursuit of giving back to patient care and that a portion of those qualities are  reflected in my own journey as a student doctor.
My path leading into medicine was inspired through providing care and love to my  grandparents in their final days, while learning to advocate on their behalf in the complex field  of medicine. The qualities of leadership, compassion, and humanism have been instilled in me  throughout my journey to medicine and continue to be a resounding force in the purpose and  direction that I believe I am meant to serve. It is my intention to continue to pursue excellence  in the human connection and distinction in the field of medicine. It is my hope to one day  return to the communities in which I grew up in to serve the many vulnerable populations as a  conduit for health promotion, literacy, and education. Through advocacy and legislation,  community memberships and volunteerism, I hope to move in action of these words to create a  positive change in society and those around me. Your kind donation is a direct reinforcement of  these initiatives, to pursue and invigorate the human connection and foster the growth of  humanism in medicine. I hope to represent the values held by those 8 physicians as I carry  forward the same sense of determination and purpose into the field as a future Osteopathic physician.
