SOMA Osteopathic Medical Education (OMED) Grant
Grant proposals from invited COMs should endeavor to support a significant current matter or community need, for example, a public health or preventive medicine issue. The inclusion criteria and specifications are intentionally broad to encourage creativity and innovation in this space.
The grant(s) will be used to create a program or project deemed “new and innovative” that addresses a significant, current community need and that can also be replicated in other chapters across the country, once determined successful.
Your proposal should aim to achieve these four goals:
The project must align with the aforementioned goals, produce measurable outcomes that benefit the COM and/or local community, and have the potential to be replicated in other COM communities across the country. For example, the project must produce measurable outcomes, such as increasing community vaccine rates; creating a disaster awareness or fundraising plan; creating a toolkit for how to better understand, appreciate and embrace the medical needs of LGBTQIA+ students in medical school.
Each approved proposal will include an associated budget and will receive a maximum of $500 to launch their initiative in their community. At the conclusion of their project, the SOMA chapter will report back to the SOMAF team during a SOMAF Council meeting and prepare a presentation for the upcoming OMED SOMAF Reception. In addition, during the pilot phase, one SOMA Chapter representative will be invited to provide a brief report during the SOMAF annual reception during OMED.
