2022 Recipients

Lawsen Parker, OMS-III
Rocky Vista University - Southern Utah
"Thank you both so much for giving me the opportunity to receive the Leadership in Specialty Medicine Scholarship. Throughout my medical education, I have learned that those who offer help to medical students are some of the best people this world can offer. I appreciate your support on my medical journey.
I am a current second year osteopathic medical student at Rocky Vista University in Southern Utah. Prior to beginning medical school, I worked as an ophthalmic technician and witnessed firsthand the importance of vision in the lives of our patients. During my time at school, I have been in leadership for our ophthalmology club and organized events like a monthly journal club and free community glaucoma screenings.
In the future, I hope to become an ophthalmologist who practices in a rural area, providing care and treatment to communities who may not have had the proper access in the past. These groups of people suffer from vision loss too often because they cannot take the time to see the medical professionals who can help them. I look forward to being a competent and efficient physician who can not only treat vision issues but be a leader in the community I live in. Once again, l'm very grateful for this scholarship. I deeply appreciate your work, time, and sacrifice that went into it."
