2022 Recipients:

Aidan Papalia, OMS-III
New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine
"I am very grateful to be the recipient of the 2022 Physician Loans A.T. Still Memorial Scholarship. My personal journey to medicine has been a long and winding road. After witnessing my grandmother's autonomy deteriorate following a fracture, I was compelled to further explore the field of orthopedic surgery. Due to longer life expectancy and an aging populous, the incidence of significant age-related fractures continues to grow annually. In addition to their debilitating effect on patients who experience them, fractures also result in significant socioeconomic costs. I tailored much of my business coursework and personal study towards exploring the orthopedic field.
Next year I will be taking a hiatus from my medical education to pursue a research fellowship in Orthopedic Surgery at New York University I am thrilled to have the opportunity to continue learning about the field of orthopedics from both a clinical and economic perspective. I'm excited to be able to work in the field of orthopedic surgery and extremely grateful to have the opportunity to apply my business knowledge in a field that I am passionate about. I hope to practice as an orthopedic surgeon in the future and believe that there is much room for improving the accessibility of care, especially amongst aging populations.
I would like to take the opportunity to thank Physician Loans and all those involved with organizing the A.T. Still Memorial Scholarship for selecting me as a recipient. I greatly appreciate the scholarship and believe it will help me tremendously as continue on my journey as an osteopathic physician. I am very proud to be an osteopathic physician and will continue employing the principles of osteopathy throughout the course of my career."

"I am deeply appreciative to be one of the recepients of the A.T. Still Memorial Scholarship. I am very grateful for this recognition and monetary support towards my medical education. Here is a little bit about me: My wife and I have a 2 1/2 year old daughter named Eliana, and an 9 week old named Brielle. Our hands are full balancing clinical rotations with these two little ones!
I am at the tail end of my 3rd year of medical school. I am planning on doing residency in psychiatry. I am particularly interested in working in child & adolescent psychiatry. Once again, I express my appreciation for supporting me and my family in this significant way!"
