SOMA New Member Scholarship
Fall 2022 Recipients
George Yang, OMS-II at the University of the Incarnate Word School of Osteopathic Medicine
A few words from Student Doctor George Yang on receiving the SOMA New Member Scholarship:
"Thank you so much for your support in making this scholarship become a reality. To some, this $500 scholarship may be a small award; however, to me, this scholarship is a tremendous help. This scholarship will help alleviate the financial burden that drags and hinders me from pursuing my medical degree without worrying about my next meal, rent, or how I can afford to attend medical conferences to increase my opportunity to network for residency."
Kelsey McKenna, OMS-I at Rocky Vista University
A few words from Student Doctor Kelsey McKenna on receiving the SOMA New Member Scholarship:
"Thank you so much for your generous donation and investment in me as an osteopathic medical student. I am sure you know how expensive medical school is and your generosity is massively appreciated.
I am hoping to put this money towards attending the AFCOP conference. I am interested in family medicine and making an impact on my community and can't wait to learn more about it. I am new to SOMA, but was just elected as a first year representative from Rocky Vista University and can't wait to get more involved and attend next year's conference. I think it is a phenomenal organization for students. I am a part of the National Health Service Corps and have committed to serve in an underserved community after medical school. I was a Peace Corps volunteer and service has always been an important motivator in my life.
Overall, I am extremely grateful for sponsors like you who choose to invest in future physicians like me. I can't wait to make a positive impact on my community."

Fiona Pashollari, OMS-II at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine
A few words from Student Doctor Fiona Pashollari on receiving the SOMA New Member Scholarship:
"It is an honor to have been selected to receive the SOMA New Member Scholarship. I am a first-year medical student at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine and I am in the Primary Care Scholars Pathway, meaning I'll be graduating a year earlier to enter a workforce of PCPs that is facing a shortage. I am so excited to be joining SOMA and plan to be an active member to learn how to advocate for healthcare access in the communities I end up practicing in. I plan to use this scholarship by saving it to attend a SOMA conference one day."
